Terms of Use

Article 1 — Application
These Terms of Use (the "Terms") set forth the conditions for using the virtual pet app "Petopia" (the "App") provided by ss0314 ("we", "us", or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App. These Terms are provided in multiple languages for convenience. In the event of any discrepancy between the English version and any translated version, the English version shall prevail.
Article 2 — Account System
2.1 Anonymous Accounts
When you first launch the App, an anonymous account is automatically created. No personal information is required. This account allows you to use all basic features of the App.
2.2 Sign in with Apple
You may optionally sign in with your Apple ID to enable cross-device data synchronization. When you sign in, your anonymous account data (including coins, owned animals, costumes, and progress) is automatically merged into your Apple-linked account. This merge is permanent and cannot be undone.
2.3 Account Ownership
Each account is tied to a single user. Accounts cannot be shared, transferred, or sold to other users. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
2.4 Account Deletion
You may permanently delete your account through the "Delete Account" option in the App's settings. Account deletion is immediate and irreversible. All associated data — including coins, owned animals, costumes, nicknames, progress, and purchase history — will be permanently removed from our servers. After deletion, a new anonymous account will be created automatically. Previously purchased items cannot be recovered after account deletion, though Apple App Store purchase history is maintained by Apple and may be used to restore certain purchases.
Article 3 — In-App Currency (Coins)
3.1 Acquiring Coins
Coins can be obtained through: (a) in-app purchases via the Apple App Store; (b) daily login bonuses; (c) completing in-app missions (feeding, care activities); and (d) one-time share rewards. The amount of coins and availability of free acquisition methods may change at our discretion.
3.2 Using Coins
Coins may be used to unlock premium animal characters and purchase cosmetic costumes within the App. All coin transactions are final. Once coins are spent on an item, the transaction cannot be reversed.
3.3 Coin Properties
Coins have no expiration date. Coins are non-transferable between accounts and cannot be gifted, traded, or sold. Coins have no monetary value outside the App and cannot be exchanged for real currency. The server-side balance is authoritative; local cached balances are for display purposes only.
3.4 Coin Loss
Coins will be permanently lost upon account deletion. We are not responsible for coin loss resulting from account deletion, unauthorized access, or technical issues beyond our reasonable control.
Article 4 — In-App Purchases
4.1 Purchase Processing
All in-app purchases (coin packs, starter packs) are processed through the Apple App Store using StoreKit 2. Purchase transactions are verified on our server before items are granted. We do not directly handle your payment information — this is managed entirely by Apple.
4.2 Premium Content
Premium animal characters are unlocked by spending coins. Once unlocked, an animal is permanently available on your account. The same animal cannot be purchased twice. Cosmetic costumes are purchased per-costume (not per-animal) and remain available permanently once acquired.
4.3 Restoring Purchases
If purchased coin packs become unavailable due to a device change, you can restore your App Store purchases from the Settings screen within the App. Items purchased with coins are tied to your account and will sync automatically when you sign in with the same Apple ID.
4.4 Refunds
Refunds for coin pack purchases are subject to Apple's App Store refund policy. We are unable to process refunds directly. Items purchased with coins (animals, costumes) are non-refundable, as coins are considered spent at the time of transaction.
Article 5 — Limited-Time Content
5.1 Seasonal Events
The App may offer limited-time events featuring exclusive costumes, bundles, or other content. These events have defined start and end dates displayed within the App.
5.2 Availability
Content available during a limited-time event may not be purchasable after the event ends. Costumes and items purchased before an event's end date remain permanently available on your account. We do not provide compensation for missed events or unavailable limited-time content.
Article 6 — User-Generated Content
6.1 Pet Nicknames
You may assign custom nicknames to your pets. Nicknames are visible only to you and are stored on your account. You are solely responsible for the content of any nicknames you create.
6.2 Content Standards
Nicknames must not contain offensive, hateful, discriminatory, or otherwise inappropriate content. We reserve the right to remove or reset nicknames that violate these standards without prior notice.
Article 7 — Data Storage and Synchronization
7.1 Server-Side Data
Your account data — including owned animals, costumes, coin balance, coin transaction history, nicknames, and progress — is stored on our servers (hosted by Supabase). The server-side data is the authoritative record of your account state.
7.2 Local Data
Certain settings and cached data are stored locally on your device. Widget configurations and pet photos used for widgets are stored in the App's local storage. This local data is not synced across devices and will be lost if the App is uninstalled.
7.3 Network Requirements
While basic viewing features work offline, an internet connection is required for purchases, claiming daily bonuses, syncing progress, and Live Activity updates. Data displayed while offline may not reflect the most recent server-side state.
Article 8 — Push Notifications and Live Activities
8.1 Live Activities
The App uses Apple's ActivityKit and push notifications to display your pet on the Dynamic Island and Lock Screen via Live Activities. To enable this feature, your device push token and an installation identifier are sent to our server. These are used solely for delivering Live Activity updates and are not used for marketing or advertising purposes.
8.2 Notification Permissions
Push notification permissions are managed through your device's iOS settings. You may disable notifications at any time. Disabling notifications will stop Live Activity updates but will not affect other App functionality.
Article 9 — Prohibited Activities
Users shall not engage in any of the following:
- Activities that violate applicable laws or public order
- Activities related to criminal conduct
- Activities that interfere with or disrupt the operation of the App or its servers
- Reverse engineering, decompiling, or disassembling the App
- Unauthorized reproduction, redistribution, or sale of the App's content (including pixel art, animations, and sound effects)
- Attempting to manipulate coin balances, purchase records, or other account data
- Creating multiple accounts to exploit free rewards or promotions
- Any other activities deemed inappropriate by us
Article 10 — Service Changes and Suspension
We may change, suspend, or terminate the App's services (including specific features, events, or content) without prior notice. We may also suspend or terminate individual user accounts for violation of these Terms. We shall not be liable for any damages arising from such actions.
Article 11 — Disclaimer
- The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
- We shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of or inability to use the App.
- We do not guarantee the continuous, uninterrupted, or error-free operation of the App or its servers.
- We are not responsible for any data loss resulting from server outages, device failures, or circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
Article 12 — Intellectual Property
All intellectual property rights related to the App — including but not limited to pixel art, animations, sound effects, music, UI design, source code, and trademarks — belong to us or the rightful owners. Users may only use the App and its content within the scope defined by these Terms. Any unauthorized use constitutes a violation of these Terms and applicable intellectual property laws.
Article 13 — Changes to These Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time when deemed necessary. Updated Terms take effect from the time they are posted on this page. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you within the App.
Article 14 — Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Japan. Any disputes arising in connection with the App shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts having jurisdiction over our location.
